It is 2am.
The house is quiet. The children are asleep. Her husband is snoring softly beside her.
And she is wide awake.
Her neck is wet. Her nightgown is sticking to her back. The heat started somewhere in her chest and climbed up into her face, like someone opened an oven door inside her body.
She pushes the sheet off. She pulls it back on when the chill comes. She checks the time. Then she checks it again.
If I sleep now, I can still get four hours before I wake up for work.
She doesn't sleep now.
In the morning she will do what she always does. Bathe. Dress. Smile. Go to work. Snap at somebody over something small, and feel bad about it later.
Nobody at work will know she has been awake since two.
Maybe the fan was on full. Maybe there was no light at all. It doesn't seem to matter. The heat comes from somewhere inside her, and nothing she does at night seems to stop it.
And the questions start.
Is this BP? Is it fibroids? Is something wrong with me?
Somebody in church said it might be an attack.
Am I going mad?
If you recognise these nights, in your own life or in someone you love, please keep reading. What I am about to share is simple, and it is not what most women have been told.
My name is Gloria Onuh. I hold a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Public Health, and I run GLOGITAL, where I create practical health guides for Nigerian women and families.
I am not a medical doctor, and I am not writing this as someone who has been through the change herself.
I am writing it because, in our homes, this stage of a woman's life is hardly talked about. Women in their 40s and 50s are waking up soaked at night, snapping at the people they love, and suffering in silence because nobody has explained to them what is happening to their bodies.
So I put together the guidance that recognised women's health organisations give, and I adapted it for our reality: the heat, the power situation, our food, our marriages, our churches, our hospitals.
To show you what that looks like in real life, let me tell you about Amaka.
Amaka's story brings together real experiences that many Nigerian women have shared. Her name and details are used to illustrate them. Individual experiences vary.
Amaka is in her mid-forties. She teaches at a secondary school in Lagos. Married, three children, the kind of woman everybody calls when something needs to be organised.
For years, sleep was the one thing she never had to think about. She would lie down, and she would sleep.
Then, in her early forties, things started to change.
First it was her period. It came early one month, late the next, then heavy, then light. Stress, she told herself.
Then came the nights.
She would wake at 2am, burning. Her chest, her neck, her face. A few minutes later the sweat would come, and then she would feel cold. By the time it passed, sleep was gone.
Two nights a week became four. Four became most nights.
"So this is what Aunty Ugomma was going through"
Growing up, Amaka lived with her aunty, Aunty Ugomma. She remembers her fanning herself at night, sleeping on the parlour floor, snapping at everyone for no reason. Nobody explained anything. The adults just said, "Leave her, it's her age."
Amaka was a child then. She didn't understand.
It was only years later, lying awake at 2am, soaked, in her mid-forties, that it suddenly made sense. "So this is what Aunty Ugomma was going through."
But what was it, exactly? Nobody had ever given it a name.
"Amaka, I'm not sleeping either"
The tiredness followed her everywhere. She shouted at her students for small things. She cried in the car once, for no reason she could explain. She forgot where she kept her keys, her phone, the school fees receipt.
Her husband noticed before she said anything.
"Amaka, you are always tossing and turning. You keep pushing the cloth off, then pulling it back. I'm not sleeping either."
One night he took his pillow and went to sleep in the parlour.
He didn't mean it as a punishment. But lying alone in that bed, soaked, at 3am, it felt like one.
Everything she tried
Like many of us, Amaka tried everything she could think of.
She felt dismissed, confused, and very alone.
The day somebody finally explained it
What changed things for Amaka was not a miracle. It was an explanation.
A nurse she knew sat with her one evening and said something she had never heard before:
"Amaka, what you're describing sounds like perimenopause. Your hormones are changing, and it can start in your early forties. It's not an attack, and you're not going mad. But you have to learn how to manage it."
For the first time in months, Amaka felt relief. Not because the problem was gone, but because it finally had a name. The same thing Aunty Ugomma had suffered through, all those years, without anybody telling her.
Here is the simple version that most women are never given.
In your 40s, your ovaries slowly produce less of a hormone called oestrogen. It doesn't drop smoothly. It goes up and down for several years. This stage is called perimenopause.
Oestrogen helps the brain control body temperature. When it swings, the brain's "thermostat" becomes over-sensitive. A tiny rise in heat makes it react and throw off heat fast: the face and chest burn, the heart races, then the sweat comes, then the chill.
That is a hot flush. At night, it is a night sweat.
That is why the fan, the AC and the cold floor don't fix it. The heat is coming from inside. Cooling the room helps a little, but what really helps is a routine that works with the body: preparing it before bed, calming it, knowing exactly what to do when a flush comes, and knowing which everyday things make it worse.
Once Amaka understood this, she stopped fighting her body and started working with it.
Her 14 nights
She followed a simple routine every night for two weeks:
The first three nights, she still woke up. But this time she knew what to do. She cooled her neck, slowed her breathing, didn't check the clock, and lay back down instead of lying awake until 5am.
By the second week, her tracker showed her something she hadn't noticed before: her worst nights almost always came after late pepper soup or a hot cup of tea before bed. She moved both earlier in the evening.
She still had warm nights. But fewer of them turned into lost nights. Her mornings felt lighter. She stopped snapping at everybody.
And one evening she sat her husband down and explained what was happening to her body. He listened. That weekend, he brought his pillow back.
When she went back to a doctor, she took her 14-night tracker with her and asked the right questions. This time, she was taken seriously.
Women like Amaka, and like Aunty Ugomma before her, shouldn't have to wait years for someone to explain this to them.
So I put everything into one simple, step-by-step kit that a woman can open on her phone tonight: what is happening, what to do before bed, what to do at 2am, what to avoid, how to talk to the people around her, and what to ask her doctor.
Sleep Through the Night Again
The 14-Night Hot Flush Reset for Nigerian Women in Their 40s and 50s
And the best part? You don't need expensive mixtures, special equipment, or to give up all the food you love. You need a clear routine, followed for 14 nights.
"Honestly, I wish I had come across this earlier. Some of the things discussed here are experiences I have been struggling to understand. I think this is a very helpful resource for women like me."
"After going through the preview, I think my wife really needs this. It is quite relevant, and I believe it would be helpful for her."
The full kit includes the main guide, two bonus tools and an 8-minute guided audio. It's designed to be used, not just read, every night for 14 nights and beyond.
Complete kit Β· instant download
β¦9,800
One-time payment. No subscription. Opens on your phone or computer.
A guide is only useful if you can follow it at 2am, when you're tired and hot. So I've added three tools that make the routine easy.
BONUS 1
Eight bedside cards with the most important steps from the guide: the Cool Night Setup, the Flush Breath, the 2AM Reset, your trigger check and more.
Keep the cards by your bed, or save them on your phone, so you never have to open the full guide in the middle of the night.
BONUS 2
Your 14-night tracker, an evening trigger tracker, a Day 14 review, a 30-day planner, and a Doctor Visit Prep page.
Fill in one row each morning. By Night 8, you'll start to see your own patterns, and you'll have a clear record to show your doctor.
BONUS 3
A calm voice guides you through slow breathing, releasing the day's stress, a gentle body check, and stillness before sleep.
Press play, put your phone face down, and simply follow along. No steps to remember.
All of this for
β¦9,800
Still unsure? I understand. You may have spent money before on things that didn't help.
So here is my promise: follow the 14-night reset. If you don't find it helpful, send me a message within 30 days of buying, and I will refund your β¦9,800 in full. No long questions.
You either get a routine that helps, or you get your money back.
"This has become part of my bedtime routine. I feel more relaxed at night, and the guided audio makes winding down much easier."
"I like how practical the guide feels. The tracker and reference cards make it much easier to follow consistently."
Is this a medicine or a cure?
No. It's an educational kit with a practical night routine, tools and scripts. It doesn't replace your doctor. It also shows you when to see one, and what to ask when you do.
I've tried so many things already. Why would this be different?
Most things women try, like mixtures, painkillers or sleeping on the floor, only target one night. This kit explains why the heat is happening, then gives you a full routine for before bed, during a flush and at 2am, plus a tracker to find your own triggers. And if it doesn't help, the 30-day promise covers you.
Will it work for me if I'm in my early 40s, or past 55?
The routine is designed for women going through the change, whether it has just started in your early 40s or you're already in your 50s. Every woman is different, so the tracker helps you find what works for your body.
What if I have no light at night, or I already have AC?
Both are covered. The routine works with or without power, and there's a special plan for nights when there is no light.
How do I receive it?
Immediately after payment, you get access to the guide, both bonuses and the audio, plus an email with your first steps. Everything opens on your phone.
Can I buy it for my wife, mother or aunty?
Yes. Many people buy it for someone they love.
Option 1: Close this page and keep guessing. Keep waking at 2am, wondering if it's BP, fibroids or something worse, and pushing through each day on four hours of sleep.
Option 2: Get Sleep Through the Night Again today for β¦9,800, finally understand what your body is doing, and start your first calm, cool night tonight.
Aunty Ugomma never had anyone explain it to her. You don't have to go through it the same way.
